Sports Update
Since October half term, Park House have fulfilled 37 fixture evenings where multiple matches are played. This term we have continued with the district's focus on girls football along with boys rugby and we’ve participated in other sports such as swimming gala, hockey, basketball, badminton. There has also been National and County Cup fixtures in both football and rugby.
A squad went to Downs for a friendly hockey match, comprising of players with a variety of experiences. Some players had played club and some had not played hockey before. The more experienced players supported the new players holding the middle and making some great tackles. The Downs side linked well and won 6-0. It was great to see players trying something new and taking up this opportunity.
Similarly, a number of girls took up the chance to swim in a gala against Downe House, Downs and Kennet. All these schools have swimming on their curriculum so the girls faced some strong competition. We had a few individual successes with Imi coming 1st in U13 breaststroke, Claudia 1st in U15 fly, and Morgan coming 2nd in the U18 front crawl.
This term also saw the return leg of the St Barts netball friendly matches for years 7-10. Bart’s clearly didn’t like being beaten at home and pulled out all the stops this time round. Sadly, all teams lost apart from the year 7s who won 10-6. Well done to Sophie, Claudia, Katie, Ava, Daisy and Grace for being voted players player and a huge thank you to Klara and Kerensa who came out and umpired.
Football
The Year 8 and 10s continued with their round robin matches this term. The Year 8s unfortunately faced tough competition and lost all three, they entered the finals night against St Gabs they played well having worked on positional play before in training and won 10-0. This meant overall they came 9th in the district. The team earlier on also travelled to Edgbarrow in freezing conditions to play their County Cup game, again they faced a well oiled team who trained multiple times a week and lost 8-0 knocking them out of the competition.
The 10s won both their matches in their last round robin night which means they play against John O Gaunt in their final night for first or second place! A huge well done to a number of year 9s who have played up and supported the dedicated Year 10s.
The Year 9 team had their final night with the A’s playing Kennet who had a few key players upfront and in defence, they fought hard but lost 3-1 so came 6th in the district. The B's played Willink and lost 7-1 overall coming 8th in the district.
Finally the 7s also had their finals night. The A’s played an aggressive Theale side and an unlucky rebound goal meant they lost 0-1 so came 6th. The B’s played Downs and lost 0-3 which meant they came 8th in the district. The 7’s also had their first round of County Cup game against Forest School. Despite the snow they still travelled as they had no snow and lost 0-7.
A huge well done to all the girls' commitment to training and matches this term.
Year 7 - The 7s adventure in the National cup came to an end with a loss to St Bernard's from Didcot at the end of November, losing 5-3. They had some resounding victories with players finding their feet in the school team over Trinity, Brighton Hill and then a good battling win away to Wotton Bassett. The team is gelling and it looks promising for the district competitions and the county cup.
Year 10 - The 10s have always had successful spells as a team and generally were quite dominant in games until they came unstuck at St Crispins in Wokingham. It wasn't to be that day where we dominated the whole game but to everyone's surprise including their players and staff we ended up losing the game. We hope for a long run in the county cup after Christmas.
PGL Netball Tour
Over a weekend in November, Years 10 and 11 netball teams enjoyed an action-packed trip to PGL Liddington for their Netball Tour. Friday evening kicked off with team games, followed by exhilarating outdoor activities on Saturday morning, including axe throwing, zipwire, abseiling, and the giant swing—sure to wake everyone up! The girls played a total of six netball matches across Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. Schools from across the country came so it was great for the girls to experience new schools to play against. Saturday evening included a silent disco and cake which Isla had made and Beth bought for Miss Tregear’s birthday. The Year 11 team went undefeated to win their league! Player of the matches across the two days included Poppy, Georgie, Melissa, Evie, Beth B and Izzy, while muppet of the moment were voted in with Emily, Deia and Liv winning the awards. Both players and staff had a fantastic time making memories on and off the court!
