GCSE & Post-16 Results 2024
GCSE Success
Our GCSE students have achieved the highest results in West Berkshire, with an outstanding 65% of students attaining a grade 5 or above in both English and Maths, this is 4% higher than any other school in the area. This is a testament to their hard work, determination, and the high-quality teaching and support provided by our dedicated staff.
I am thrilled to announce that our provisional Progress 8 score—an indicator of the progress students make between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 4—indicates our students have achieved a full ½ a grade higher on average across each of their subjects than the national average. This is by far the highest in the school’s history. This score places us in the 'Well above average' category nationally and reflects our commitment to ensuring that every student reaches their full potential. In fact, our students have outperformed all other schools in the region, making this achievement even more significant.
Our A-level students have also set a new benchmark for success, with the highest results in West Berkshire. A remarkable 54% of students achieved grades A*- B, with 35% securing the top grades of A*- A and the average grade for each subject entry was a B-. These results are a reflection of the hard work and dedication our students have shown throughout their studies.
We are also thrilled to report that over 90% of our students have secured a place at their first-choice university, with many gaining entry to highly prestigious and high-performing Russell Group universities including Cambridge, Bath, Bristol, Loughborough, Cardiff, Exeter and Southampton. This is a phenomenal achievement and speaks volumes about the quality of education and guidance provided at our school.
These extraordinary results are not only a reflection of the students’ efforts but also of the unwavering support they have received from you, their parents and carers. Your encouragement and involvement has been crucial in helping them achieve such high standards. I would also like to extend my deepest gratitude to our dedicated staff, whose commitment to excellence has been instrumental in guiding our students to success.

GCSE & Post-16 Results 2023
This year our GCSE results were incredibly impressive. Whilst progress scores haven't yet been released, results were significantly up on last year, with the percentage of students achieving a grade 5+ in English and Maths moving from 45% to 52% and the average grade increasing to 4.6. This is despite a huge deflation in grades across the country, to bring grades back in line with pre-COVID thresholds. As a result, the Department for Education progress figures, or P8 sits at +0.29 which is well above both the national and West Berkshire averages. To achieve the best results since 2014 (when number grades replaced letters) in a year when grades were scaled back is a wonderful achievement for these students.
It was a similar story for Sixth Form; despite a national picture of declining results, we saw a vastly improved picture, with an average grade of a ‘B’. The percentage of A*- B grades rose from 38% last year to 53% in 2023, notably outperforming our neighbours St Barts! In addition, we saw an increase in the number of students gaining places at top universities. As a result, this means our Sixth Form is now in a very strong position and still welcoming students to join our Sixth Form and be part of this successful culture. These wonderful exam results sit alongside a variety of other improvements this year and I am fiercely proud of both our staff and your wonderful children who have worked so hard to make this happen.
