Nine Year 10 Design & Technology students travelled to The National Oceanography Centre in Southampton on Wednesday 26th June to attend an Inspired by STEM event run by EBP South. 

Students were involved in a range of activities during the day. These were delivered by NOC, with a virtual tour around their 100m long vessel Discovery, Thermo Fisher, with students testing dubious bodily fluids in petrie dishes, Hampshire & IoW Air Ambulance, flying a helicopter simulator and trying on £20k flight helmets, AWE, trying out an exoskeleton to give super grip strength and getting friendly with Neutron their robot dog, problem solving with P&I, discovering the use of technology in the preservation of the Mary Rose, the World of Gases from BOC, and bridge building with spaghetti and marshmallows facilitated by Balfour Beatty. 

Students engaged and participated superbly in the various activities and were a true credit to Park House, with confirmation that working hard and taking responsibility are a pre-requisite of many of the STEM careers they may choose as career paths in the future. 

It was also lovely to have ex-PHS D&T student Jamie Stiff as our STEM Ambassador for the day from AWE, Aldermaston.
